Senior BigCommerce & Shopify Developer

GRAYBOX is looking for a Sr. Ecommerce Web Developer to join our team, specifically with a focus on BigCommerce & Shopify. This role is either fully remote (or in our Portland, OR office). If you are an expert working with BigCommerce AND Shopify looking to push the limits of your knowledge while working with a collaborative goal-oriented team — we’d love to chat with you. We do 2-3x more work in BigCommerce than Shopify, so while you’d be expected to be able to work seamlessly on both, we need someone particularly strong with BigCommerce.

Our niche in Ecommerce space is generally really hard, complex (weird) work — we don’t often implement a generic store. You will advise, build and support the development & implementation of highly customized commerce experiences for B2C & B2B clients.

Responsibilities

  • You will work to drive the technical implementation of client stores and ecommerce-related projects. Sometimes the best approach is custom code, sometimes it’s settings/configurations, and sometimes it’s bringing in 3rd-party applications.
  • You will collaborate with our creative team on the user experience and achieve business goals.
  • You will collaborate with account strategists on systems selections, data flows, integrations and implementation plans.
  • You will work with Project Managers on project definition and ticket writing in Jira as well as technical documentation in Confluence.
  • You will work on customizing existing themes and create new ones from scratch.
  • You will collaborate with other developers (both staff and external contractors), sometimes coaching, delegating, or reviewing their work.
  • You will report progress and escalate issues or slippage in a timely fashion.
  • Troubleshoot problems and operate independently

About You

  • You love creating beautiful, high-quality work - you care deeply about your work.
  • You care about delivering the best solution possible to our client-partners.
  • You’re great at working independently in a fast-paced environment alongside distributed teams.
  • You ask questions, let others know when you need help, and tell others what you need.
  • You put time and care into each and every project.
  • You want to grow your dev knowledge and website skills, and you’re eager to learn.
  • You have some agency experience.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in high-end front-end development
  • 4+ years of experience with PHP, Ruby, CSS, SCSS, Javascript
  • 4+ years of experience with the major Ecommerce Platforms, specifically a portfolio of stores you’ve built
  • 2+ years of experience with Git and code management
  • 2+ years of development experience in an agency environment, working on more than one project at a time

Nice to Have

  • Experience creating Ecommerce Plugins/modules (public or private)
  • Platform certifications
  • Experience with React or GraphQL
  • Experience with headless commerce
  • AWS / DevOps experience
  • Experience with other ecommerce frameworks such as: Commerce Tools, SFCC/Demandware, Magento, etc.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • 16 days PTO + 8 Holidays
  • Health, Dental and Vision Insurance (partially paid for you)
  • Annual Education Allowance
  • 401k + 4% match
  • Group Term Life insurance
  • 5 Week paid (80%) Sabbatical every 5 years of employment

Location & Remote Work

  • Role is open to anywhere in the USA
  • Working while traveling is okay up to 4 weeks/year
  • Must be working from 9am-2pm Pacific Time, other hours are at your discretion

Hiring Process

Our process generally involves 4 rounds of interviews; a phone screening, video calls with hiring manager, team members or specialists and CEO. Some of our applicants with technical backgrounds may be asked to complete a skill-based assessment, and review your results with an Architect.
