We intentionally built out our industrial inner SE Portland headquarters in 2016 — we have the top floor of the historical Olympia MIlls building. We loved the creative vibes, the concrete, and the views of downtown (& the river). We then added our own flair by opening up walls and adding additional conference rooms, phone rooms, informal meeting spaces and collaborative zones. Pre-Covid, these spaces allowed our team to quickly rally together when they need to, while also giving people space to spread out, focus and get real work done. In our new hybrid-remote world, our office grounds us geographically, and provides a location for our teams, clients, and community to gather and collaborate.
Concrete + Wood, Noise + Silence, City + Nature
One thing we love about Portland is it's a first-rate city, surrounded by nature. We're a short drive from almost any topography we could want at any given time. We live in a temperate rainforest that surrounds our city. This contrast is only one compelling part of living in this great place.
In a similar way, we took the raw industrial vibe of the Historic Olympia Mills building and aimed to contrast the cold concrete and metal with warmth, light, and color. The office in this way as juxtaposition is both visually interesting, and it speaks to the united nature of how GRAYBOX operates.
As a company with a wide variety of service areas (Creative, Strategy, and Technology) in the digital-realm, we get work done by operating intersectionality with a cross-discipline and diverse team to get any one project completed well. Likewise, our office space provides a great foundation for intersecting collaboration -- space for teams to use the office for whiteboards and discovery; conference rooms that facilitate hybrid in-office and remote meetings; and amazing open space where clients and members of the community can come share our space to collaborate.
Our office has:
- A training area that seats 70
- 18-Person Board Room (built for in-person and hybrid-remote)
- 8-Person Standing Conference Room (built for in-person and hybrid-remote)
- 2 4-Person War Rooms
- 3,000 sq.ft of outdoor patios
- 5 private offices
We built out the office to be a community asset as well, so we're proud to offer any of the rooms for free to other businesses, local non-profits, individuals, etc. as a community space when they need it. We've been excited to host everything from weddings, large parties, Nike strategic offsites, consultant training seminars, various meet-up groups, and every other type of event you can think of.
